STRULE TRIBUTARIES AND RIVER TRUST
EST. 2014

About
We are a group of Anglers and Landowners who have control of funding which had been awarded to make an attempt to lessen the decline of the Atlantic Salmon which for the last number of years has seen numbers decimated through the effects of pollution, over-fishing at sea and a lack of spawning habitat and nursery streams. We work alongside Officers of the Loughs Agency to engage with landowners and carry out projects on the area of river that flows through their lands. We have carried out many schemes since our inception in 2014 spending in excess of £200,000 on enhancement projects using NASCO guidelines.

Objectives
Our main Objectives are to conserve, protect, rehabilitate, reinstate and improve rivers, streams and watercourses comprising the River Strule and its Tributaries above the Cappagh Burn just North of Omagh. To carry out such works to reinstate or improve the habitat for inland fisheries of the Strule River in compliance with scientific guidelines.
We have now been recognised as a Charity through the Charities Commission since 2023 and we have sought extra funding since the award of the initial settlement. We have received £125,000 over 4 years for works outside of the river from an Environmental Fund given by DAERA and received this year a further £25,000 approx in funding from the Rivers Trust to put together an operational plan to help us continue the work we have started.
